Travel Clinic at Manchester Chemist – Travel Vaccinations & Expert Advice

Planning a trip abroad? Protect your health before you go. At Manchester Chemist Travel Clinic, we provide expert travel health advice, a wide range of travel vaccinations and anti-malarials to help you stay safe overseas.

Why Visit a Travel Clinic Before You Travel?

Many travel-related illnesses are preventable with the right vaccines and medication. A pre-travel consultation helps you:

  • Reduce your risk of serious infections such as hepatitis A & B, typhoid, meningitis and more.
  • Get destination-specific advice tailored to where you’re going, how long for and what you’ll be doing.
  • Understand local health risks like food & water safety, mosquito-borne diseases and outbreak areas.
  • Ensure routine vaccines are up to date, including tetanus, diphtheria and polio boosters.
  • Access anti-malarial tablets and other preventative treatments when needed.

Tip: Try to book your travel clinic appointment at least 4–8 weeks before you travel so there’s time to complete any vaccine courses.

Travel Vaccinations Available at Manchester Chemist

We offer a comprehensive range of private travel vaccinations for adults and children. Some of our most commonly requested vaccines include:

Core Travel Vaccines

  • Hepatitis A – Protects against a virus that affects the liver and is often spread through contaminated food and water. Recommended for many destinations where hygiene and sanitation may be poor.
  • Hepatitis B – Protects against a blood-borne virus that can cause chronic liver disease. Important for longer trips, healthcare work, medical tourism or close contact with local populations.
  • Typhoid – Helps protect against typhoid fever, commonly spread via contaminated food and water in areas with poor sanitation.
  • Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio (DTP) – A combined booster that protects against three serious infections. Often recommended if your last booster was more than 10 years ago.

Specialist & Destination-Specific Vaccines

  • Meningitis ACWY (Hajj & Umrah / High-Risk Areas) – Required for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and recommended for certain high-risk regions.
  • Rabies – Recommended for travellers spending time in rural areas, working with animals or staying for extended periods in countries where rabies is present.
  • Japanese Encephalitis – For travellers to rural parts of Asia, especially during the transmission season or for longer stays.
  • Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) – Recommended for people visiting forested or rural areas in certain parts of Europe and Asia.
  • Yellow Fever – For travel to areas where yellow fever is present or where an entry certificate is required (if applicable).
  • Dengue Vaccine – For eligible travellers visiting regions where dengue fever is common.

We also provide anti-malarial tablets and other vaccines depending on your itinerary and medical history. Our pharmacist will advise exactly which vaccines are suitable for your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When should I book my travel vaccines?

Ideally, book your appointment 4–8 weeks before you travel. Some vaccines require more than one dose spaced over several weeks, so earlier is better. However, if your trip is sooner, we can still offer advice and last-minute protection where possible.

Do I need to see my GP first?

In most cases, no GP referral is needed. You can book directly with our travel clinic for a private consultation and vaccination.

How do I know which vaccines I need?

Our pharmacist will assess your destination, length of stay, planned activities and medical history. We’ll then explain which vaccines and anti-malarials are recommended so you can make an informed choice.

Are travel vaccines safe?

Yes – all vaccines are from reputable manufacturers and are administered by trained professionals. We’ll also discuss any possible side effects or precautions with you beforehand.
